You're right, and I hope you would agree that a party which describes itself as "the political arm of the British people" is unsuited for government.
Being on the relatively unreconstructed libertarian socialist wing of the Labour Party, I don't recall ever defending any of the nonsense that was frequently spouted by Tony Blair in the name of "new labour".
But I wouldn't hold such verbal diarrhoea against the party as a whole, any more than I would blame other SNP members if Nicola Sturgeon intervened with DS Chisholm on behalf of Arthur Daley.
